Slingshots (called Potomo Waka) or catapults are used amongst the Baule people to hunt fruit bats which are considered a delicacy. Children use the slingshots to scare birds away so they donít eat the familyís ripening millet stalks. For play, it is used to see who can hit the farthest milk can. The bicycle tube strap has been removed so that the carver's artistry can be enjoyed.
The connection between the useful and the beautiful as a central concern of the building becomes particularly clear in the extraordinarily artistically designed everyday objects, such as combs, seats or loom looms. Even slingshots are delicately figured out.
